Hey everyone, Kyle here at Marcel Digital, and we just wrapped up day one at Umbraco Codegarden 2025 here in Udense and wow, what a kickoff. Big energy, big ideas, and of course the usual Umbraco fun.
Umbraco highlighted last week's Umbraco 16 release stating that it is a minor major version in order to keep changes at minimum for the upcoming 17 long-term support release. As a part of this, they also revealed their new search abstraction which allows implementers to use other search indexing options outside of the scene. The abstraction allows for sites hosted in Azure, for example, to utilize Azure AI search natively.
And over in the cloud zone, we saw real-time demos of flexible environments unlocking the ability to work on a feature in isolation of the mainline environments. After the feature work is complete and it's been QAed on the flexible environment, the changes can be seamlessly merged back into the mainline.
And big news on the product front. Umbraco Compose was announced as a new service to orchestrate multiple data sources into a centralized location. Rather than requiring multiple integrations between services, Umbraco Compose now acts as the hub for multiple channels to consume the consolidated information. There's still more details to come, but from what we can tell that's wildly promising and exciting.
And Umbraco Engage continues to be a hot topic, combining first-party analytics, AB testing, heat maps, and personalization into one incredible package.
With AI agents on the rise, Umbroco announced an official MCP server solution to allow AI agents to interact seamlessly with their website and its content, utilizing the Umbraco APIs.
So what did we learn? Umbroco is doubling down on innovation, cloud agility, and marketing friendly features. Whether you're a dev marketer or that one person that just can't get enough of Umbraco, there was a little something for everyone. And that's it for day one. Tons of takeaways, a little buzz from the bar, and I'm ready to dive into day two. Catch you tomorrow for more nerdy goodness.
