As a proud Umbraco Platinum Partner, we keep a close eye on everything happening with Umbraco and let’s just say, 2025 hasn’t disappointed. Between major platform updates and exciting new products on the horizon, there’s plenty to talk about.
Here’s our take on what’s new, what’s coming, and why it matters.
Umbraco 16 Is Here - And It’s a Pretty Big Deal
Umbraco 16 launched last month with major improvements:
- A New Rich Text Editor - Powered by Tiptap, delivering cleaner HTML, better table support, and an intuitive editing experience.
- Granular Permissions for Editors - Control who sees or edits specific fields with new property-level permissions.
- Improved Backoffice UX - Fewer popups, better notifications, and a calmer, more accessible workspace.
- Content Segments & Flexible Webhooks - More options for tailored content delivery and integrations with minimal or extended payloads.
If your website runs on an older version like Umbraco 8 or 10, now’s a great time to look at upgrading. You’ll get better performance, stronger security, and a future-ready platform that gives your team more flexibility.
Umbraco 10 Has Reached End-of-Life
It’s true - Umbraco 10 has officially reached end-of-life. While Umbraco 8 reached this milestone in February 2025, Umbraco 10 just recently reached EOL status as well in June.
So what does it mean? It means no more updates, bug fixes, or security patches and yes, running an unsupported version can leave your site vulnerable or harder to maintain.
But don’t panic! If you are working with a partner (like Marcel Digital), you have a team that can address any issues that pop up and reduce the urgency of upgrading. That being said, there are much better versions available now with increased performance and updated features, and now is the time to plan for an upgrade.
Umbraco 13 is the latest long-term support version, and it will continue to be supported through the end of 2026. And Umbraco 17 is coming in November, so a quick upgrade to the latest and greatest is only a few short months away.
We’ve already helped many organizations successfully upgrade and we can help you too. Whether you’re looking for a full migration plan or just want to explore your options, we’ve got you covered.
What’s Coming for Umbraco
