Umbraco 16 is set to launch on June 12th, 2025, and it’s bringing a host of thoughtful updates that promise to enhance the editor and developer experience. Rather than a complete overhaul, Umbraco 16 is more of a refined upgrade, taking the best of versions 14 and 15 and adding some strategic enhancements. Here’s what to expect.
1. Tiptap - The Modern Rich Text Editor
TinyMCE is stepping aside to make way for Tiptap, a more modern and sleek rich text editor. The good news? Your existing data types will migrate automatically. The slightly less good news? You might need to adjust some toolbar and config settings. But for those who still want TinyMCE, there’s a third-party package available to keep it in play.
2. Enhanced Editor Experience & Property-Level Permissions
Editing in Umbraco 16 is smoother and more intuitive. All the great updates they made in v15 - like clipboard functionality for blocks, drag and drop media, and more robust validation - will still be available in v16. Additionally, property-level permissions enable admins to define who can edit what, reducing the risk of accidental content changes.
3. Segment Support for Personalization
Umbraco 16 introduces segment support, making it easier to display different content to different users. This sets the stage for more targeted content delivery and A/B testing - a win for marketers and developers alike.
4. Webhook Payloads - Choose Your Data
Webhook payloads now offer three options: Minimal, Extended, or Legacy. This allows you to control the amount of data being sent, optimizing performance and ensuring compatibility with your specific setup.
