Hello everybody. Joe Stoffel, SEO Director at Marcel Digital here. Just wanted to take a few minutes today to show you how to look up how much referral traffic you are receiving from answer engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claud.
Now, for this, you're going to need Google Analytics, as well as a list of the different session sources in regex format, which we can include at the bottom of the description of this video. But once you're here on the traffic acquisition overview, you can navigate to traffic acquisition. And from this page, what you're going to do is add a filter to look up a session source that contains this regex that we just showed you. So, at the top here, you're going to click add filter, we're gonna say session source matches regex. And then we are going to put in our regex, just copy and paste that there. And now this will give you the referral traffic coming from these various answer engines.
All right, and now here we have our report filtered to just show you traffic from answer engines. You can see how much traffic you're getting, you can see the number of conversions or key events you're getting from this traffic, and then you can manipulate this data to look at which sources are driving the most traffic, which you can do by adjusting this. And you can also take a look at which pages are receiving this traffic.
All right, so now the report has been updated to show you which traffic source is sending how much traffic, and then you can also do a landing page query string secondary filter to see which resources on your website are actually attracting these visits. And so that's how you can evaluate the AI traffic going to your website.
Hope this was helpful. Leave some questions in the comments.
