If you are brand new to the AdWords exam or if you are looking to get re-certified, you’ll want to start preparing for the AdWords exam with the right tools. Every year brings new trends and techniques used for search, and Google updates their exams to reflect those changes. It is important to stay up-to-date on the latest strategies and technology to ensure that you are utilizing Google AdWords effectively and efficiently.
Luckily, studying for this exam is not very difficult if you know where to find the right resources.
Here are a few useful tools and tips I use to help me prepare for Google AdWords Exams.
Google AdWords Exam Study Guides
This is always the first place I start when prepping for the AdWords exams. The AdWords study guides are always up-to-date with what will be on the exams and are chock full of some great material on how to utilize AdWords to the fullest. Google breaks down the guides for each exam so that you know exactly what information to look at and study. There are currently four tests provided for AdWords: Fundamental, Search Advanced, Display Advanced, and Video Advertising.
The Google study guide includes great examples and tips on how to study for each exam, as well as videos to explain each topic in more depth. If you are a beginner or even if you have some experience and are looking to refresh your skills, I highly recommend starting here.
Take a Practice Test
Just like any other test, a great way to study for an exam is to take a practice test. Luckily, there are plenty of online practice tests for each exam to give you an idea of the types of questions that will appear on the test. When you search for online exams, there will be many results. Be sure to view the source of the practice test to ensure that it is legitimate and worth your time. The AdWords exams have changed a lot in the last few years, and you’ll want to make sure you are studying exams that are including the most recent trends.
It is important to note that these tests are not exactly the test you will be taking. Google regularly switches up the questions to keep up with changes to the interface and takes great efforts to enhance your knowledge of the platform.
Actually Getting in There and Optimizing!
At the end of the day, I have found that my knowledge from actually working in AdWords has helped me get through the exams. Having the experience of optimizing campaigns and using the interface allows you to run through the questions faster, without having to recap what you have learned through the study guides.
The study guides and practice tests are a great way to gather a good foundation, but knowing the AdWords interface through everyday use is the best way to grow your knowledge and use the platform better.
- Make sure you are in a quiet space where you can focus while taking the exams. The tests are timed, and you do not want to be distracted.
- Ensure the computer you are working on is fully charged and does not need to be updated. I have heard stories of laptops dying and users having to restart the exam.
- Make notes of questions where you are stuck – there’s no way to mark the questions you want to review at the end.
- Keep any written study guides on hand for quick reference; they will come in handy!
